"I saw this elderly gentleman dining by himself, with an old picture of a lady in front of him. I though maybe I could brighten his day by talking to him. As I had assumed, she was his wife. But I didn’t expect such an interesting story. They met when they were both 17. They dated briefly, then lost contact when he went to war and her family moved. But he said he thought about her the entire war. After his return, he decided to look for her. He searched for her for 10 years and never dated anyone. People told him he was crazy, to which he replied “I am. Crazy in love”. On a trip to California, he went to a barber shop. He told the barber how he had been searching for a girl for ten years. The barber went to his phone and called his daughter in. It was her! She had also been searching for him and never dated either. He proposed immediately and they were married for 55 years before her death 5 years ago. He still celebrates her birthday and their anniversary. He takes her picture with him everywhere and kisses her goodnight. Some inspiring things he said;"I was a very rich man. Not with money, but with love""I never had a single argument with my wife, but we had lots of debates""People are like candles. At any moment a breeze can blow it out, so enjoy the light while you have it.""Tell your wife that you love her everyday. And be sure to ask her, have I told you that I love you lately?"Be sure to talk to the elderly. Especially strangers. You may think that you will brighten their day, but you may be surprised that they can actually brighten yours.”

This is beautiful.

I cried.

this is wonderful and amazing and one of the reasons i volunteer with old people

1.) High school isn’t all fun and games
2.) You’re going to have a friend whose dad gets in angry slurs and beats them. But you won’t know until he goes too far and you visit them in the hospital with a cut that won’t stop bleeding and a bruise that’s as purple and blue as the night sky.
3.) It’s not your fault for never picking up on how much of a monster their father was. Everyone is different behind closed doors. Instead of crying, go and visit them and give them whatever they need. Whether that’s someone to talk with or someone to make them laugh.
4.) You’re going to have a friend who thinks getting drunk everyday and passing out is a good way to not think about the hardships they have placed in front of them
5.) Be there for them. Offer them an escape. Make them understand that you will be there. Show them how the sky bends and changes colors before their very eyes.
6.) You’re going to have a friend who tries to end their life
7.) Understand that it was never your fault. People have so many ways of hiding their struggle. Be there for them when they come back. Give them hot chocolate like you used to when you were younger and watch the Lion King like time had never passed. Remind them about the times when they felt happy.
8.) You’re going to have a friend who makes a stupid decision and becomes paralyzed before their 15th birthday
9.) Go to see them as soon as you can and understand that they’re still the same person. Wear a seatbelt everyday and make sure they know that’s it’s okay to be sad about what happened
10.) You’re going to find a significant other one day who, no matter what, makes you feel like all the troubles in the world have gone away.
11.) When they leave you because you wouldn’t have sex with them, hold your head up high. You’re not anyone’s fuck toy. You’re more than your figure. You are your heart and soul and whoever can’t see that doesn’t deserve you.
12.) You’re going to be so upset sometimes that you feel as though pressure is trapped within your chest, trying to come flying out in the form of tears and self harm marks.
13.) You are the most important person in your life. Take care of yourself before anyone else. Learn what makes you happy and about how much you love life’s simple pleasures like drive in movies and the way the leaves change colors.
14.) Everything will be okay
